Closing of the international consultation on the Principles of Open Science Monitoring

Accueil » Closing of the international consultation on the Principles of Open Science Monitoring

The Principles of Open Science Monitoring were first debated during an international workshop at UNESCO in December 2023. As part of an international consultation process facilitated by UNESCO over the course of six months ending on the 30 November, we have gained a wide range of comments from the Open Science community.

We garnered 52 contributions from 167 people and organizations in 41 different countries, as shown in the map below:

The Open Science Monitoring Initiative (OSMI) is extremely grateful for the excellent inputs on the draft. We would also specifically like to thank the various stakeholders who have organised workshops, webinars or consultations within their communities to provide collective feedback, such as AmeliCA, CLACSO, DataCite, DSWB, GYA, INSPIRE, OpenAire, PathOS, PLOS, RESPIRE, Science Europe, SORTEE, and many others. The Principles will now enter into a new phase.

The first version will be enriched by the Coordination Committee and improved thanks to the specific comments that have been submitted, including suggestions for adding new elements or correcting wording. Other comments are of a general nature and recommend, for example, that better attention be paid to qualitative indicators or that particular consideration be given to sensitive data. These general comments will be taken into account in a final version. The final version of the text will be officially published during the summer of 2025 and will be the subject of an event to be announced on this site.

The text will also be translated into different languages and OSMI will need your help to get this out to people across the globe.

In the meantime, we wish you all the best for the festive season!
